Pickler Pickleball’s 2022 Year in Review

News Stacie Townsend 12-26-2022

This 2022 calendar year could arguably be the “year of pickleball.” The sport has had a wild 2022, as headlines swirl (cue the rush of breaking news on celebrities like LeBron James and Tom Brady jumping on the pickleball bandwagon or the deep dives on the sport by everyone like The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Sports Illustrated, HBO, and us here at Pickler), and pickleball explodes in popularity from billionaires and celebrities battling for the pro scene, to everyday people like us playing at the local public parks and trying to grow the grassroots of the sport.

As we look back in awe on the growth of pickleball in 2022—and dream of continued prosperity for pickleball in 2023—we wanted to pause and take a look back at some of Pickler’s original pickleball content and reporting. In 2022 alone, Pickler has published over 160 original articles on everything from tips and strategies to stories from those in the sport to recaps on headlines and pro pickleball news—in addition, to its newsletters, podcasts, e-books, and pickleball training videos. While all of these articles are worth a read—whether to help you improve your pickleball game with some tips, be informed on the court, or to have a laugh with others in the pickleball community—we wanted to highlight 3 must-read articles before you hit the pickleball courts in 2023.

So, without further ado, here are Pickler’s 3 must-read pickleball articles before you hit the pickleball courts in 2023:

  1. The Most Common Mistake on the Pickleball Court – Whether you are a beginner or pro, avoid this most common mistake on the pickleball court in 2023.

  1. Murmurs from the Losers’ Bracket – Did you know that Pickler has series of humorous tongue-in-cheek opinion pieces under the column titled “Murmurs from the Losers’ Bracket”? If you like to have fun and don’t take yourself (or us) too seriously, then these are worth a read (and hopefully a laugh). And, if this series doesn’t do it, then you may want to catch our story titled, “Nude Pickleball Is Taking Off.”

  1. 6 Pickleball Rule Changes to Learn for 2023 – Lastly, before you step on the pickleball court in the 2023 calendar year, learn the 6 important additions, deletions, and other revisions to the rules of pickleball that you should be aware of.

Before we close the chapter on the 2022 calendar year, thank you for your support and being a part of this wonderful pickleball community along with us. Above all, we are grateful for you and this “sport with a silly name” for bringing us together. As we look to 2023, we hope to bring you more tips, news, and stories straight from the pickleball court, and we hope that the sport of pickleball continues to bring happiness to your life, our lives, and the lives of millions more across the world.
