The PPA was back in action in Florida at the Cape Coral Open where Anna Leigh Waters was unstoppable, securing yet another triple crown. Men’s singles saw a huge upset at the hands of John Lucian Goins. The teen triumphed over No. 1 seed Ben Johns and ultimately claimed the bronze medal. Meanwhile, Christian Alshon marked a milestone by earning his very first PPA singles gold medal. Men’s doubles featured exciting new partnerships, several of which paid off on the medal stand. Notably, Ben Johns teamed up with Andrei Daescu to clinch the gold medal.
The PPA then headed to McKinney for the Texas Open. Christian Alshon reaffirmed his dominance, earning gold in men’s singles for the second event in a row. In a surprising turn, the top seeds—Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau, along with No. 2 seeds Anna Bright and Rachel Rohrabacher—faced unexpected setbacks in women’s doubles. Their defeat came at the hands of Callie Smith & Etta Tuionetona and Parris Todd & Hurricane Tyra Black, respectively. The triumphant pairs battled it out in the finals with Todd and Black ultimately taking home the gold. Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns both achieved a double gold medal at the event after securing a gold medal together in mixed doubles. Waters’ second gold came after facing off against Kate Fahey in women’s singles, while Johns’ earned his second alongside men’s doubles partner Gabriel Tardio.
