The recent professional pickleball events showcased some exciting competition and extraordinary performances. The APP made a splash in Daytona Beach, FL, from February 5-9, where Christopher Haworth proved his dominance with a gold medal in men’s singles. Sofia Sewing stole the spotlight by taking down No. 1 seed Megan Fudge in the semifinals, ultimately securing gold by defeating Daria Walczak. Fudge and Jack Munro made a powerful statement, cruising to the medal stand in mixed doubles, and both earning double gold by triumphing in their respective gender doubles brackets. Notably, Haworth teamed up with Amanda Hendry to clinch the bronze medal in doubles—marking Haworth’s first medal in that category.
Meanwhile, the PPA Tour headed to Arizon for the PPA Tucson Open. Real-life couple Hunter Johnson and Parris Todd have made headlines recently. First appearing in “The Ultra Hustle” Super Bowl commercial alongside actors Catherine O’Hara and Willem Dafoe, and then both winning gold medals at the PPA Tucson Open. Todd and Johnson were unstoppable, both defeating top seeds to win gold in women’s singles and men’s singles. Christian Alshon and Andre Daescu faced off against JW Johnson and Gabe Tardio in the men’s doubles final where Alshon and Daescu came out victorious. Anna Leigh Waters secured the double gold with a win in mixed doubles with partner Ben Johns and in women’s doubles with Catherine Parenteau.
